The Robert J. Task Fund at HealthCare Chaplaincy Network
HealthCare Chaplaincy Network (HCCN) is committed to relieving suffering and offering comfort and meaning to people facing illness, end of life, and other situations where spiritual and emotional distress are common.
The Robert J. Task Fund honors our dear friend who believed so strongly in this work and supported and advocated for our mission of caring for the human spirit.
The Fund will provide timely support for vital initiatives that include:
- Person-to-person care through our on-site chaplaincy programs and helpline;
- The education of chaplains, nurses, social workers, and doctors in best spiritual care practices; an
- The advancement of research on the benefits of spiritual care to inform and strengthen our field.
- HealthCare Chaplaincy Network is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. Your donation is tax-deductible.
About Robert J. Task
Robert J. Task had a distinguished legal career in charitable giving and foundation work.
After graduating from Cornell, studying at Scotland’s Edinburgh University, and earning his LLD from Columbia Law School, he worked for the New York State Attorney General overseeing the Charitable Foundations Bureau (1969–1979).
He moved to Atlanta in 1979 as senior legal counsel for the American Cancer Society. He provided legal advice to the society’s 57 chartered divisions and organized the first national conference on employment challenges facing cancer patients. A native New Yorker, he retired in 1997 and returned to Manhattan. For the final several years of his life, he was drawn back to Atlanta by devoted relatives and friends.
He was a Trustee and Treasurer of the Elmer and Mamdouha Bobst Foundation. He was also actively involved with HealthCare Chaplaincy Network of New York, NY, a worldwide leader in the spiritual care field. Robert Task died on June 5, 2023 at the age of 86.
